Keep Talking
Spring 2010

Welcome to our Spring 2010 newsletter

Thanks From UCL: Talk Lends a Hand in Training Programme

Late last year many members of TALK took part in a project operated by Jeni Husak, of University College, London. Some of Jeni’s colleagues visited our groups and made contact with recoverers, who were subsequently able to assist with the project. Jeni is now on maternity leave and has written the following to bring us up to date with her project.

“I'd just like to say a very big thank you to all of the TALK group organisers who allowed me to pop in to their sessions and to all of the recoverers who very kindly volunteered to be videoed as part of my project to develop new resources for teaching and assessment here at UCL. I had a fabulous response from everyone at the different TALK groups, and was able to recruit 25 volunteers to make video recordings of them in conversation. From these videos we have selected five that we are working on for the student exams this summer and the other videos are being edited to make a range of clips to use in teaching student speech and language therapists here at UCL. With all of your very kind assistance we will have a library of great resources to use in our teaching, so thank you!

Apart from the fabulous opportunity to develop a whole new set of resources for the university, I really enjoyed visiting all of the volunteers over the summer - and to see what a great, positive effect the TALK groups have on so many people in the Surrey area. I wish you all well, and hope that 2010 is another great year for TALK! With very best wishes,

Jeni”
