The group began in a room in Milford Hospital with four recoverers and four volunteers. Later it moved to St. Catherine’s village hall, when it was rebuilt after a fire. We now number around 15 recoverers and 15 volunteers.
We cover three main types of activity:
Quizzes and themes, where each recoverer has a volunteer working alongside, thus giving individual language support for the particular needs of the recoverer;
Artistic and musical activities using a fuller range of the recoverers’ skills, with volunteer support.
Conversation groups with a limited number of volunteers where the recoverers are encouraged to regain confidence in the conversational skills of initiating, leading and questioning, which the necessary protection and support of family, friends and helpers can inadvertently tend to stifle
All of this in a happy atmosphere of fun and laughter.
The Tuesday Afternoon Group finished off our busy year with a Christmas Celebration. Two visitors, with guitar and clarinet, played seasonal music and led us in carols.
After tea the Recoverers were given presents of biscuits or chocolates of their choice, bought with the Mr. Cleaver’s generous gift. They also took home the pottery items they had decorated and which had been fired
Who's who ?
